Graphene & Advanced Carbon Materials

Klean Graphene supplies graphene-like carbon structures recovered from waste tires and scrap rubber through the Klean Carbon arm of Klean Industries.

Graphene is the reference point for every modern carbon material: a sheet structure whose electrical, thermal and mechanical behaviour sits far outside what bulk carbons deliver. The commercial difficulty has never been the physics. It has been producing sheet-like carbon consistently, in tonnage quantities, at a cost a formulator can actually design around.

A different feedstock route

Klean approaches that problem from the waste side. End-of-life tires and scrap rubber are carbonised and then converted into nanocarbons including graphene-like structures and carbon nanotubes. The carbonisation step itself was developed in collaboration with Mitsubishi Corporation, which worked with Klean on carbonisation and on fullerene synthesis and purification from the late 1980s through the 1990s. That is three decades of process knowledge sitting behind the material rather than three years.

Scale that supports a supply contract

A joint pilot plant in Japan started in 2000 at 0.4 tonnes per annum, then scaled to handle approximately 2,500,000 used tires — around 20,000 tonnes per year of feedstock. Full-scale output is approximately 7,000 tonnes per annum of nano-recovered carbon black together with 700 tonnes per annum of carbon nanotubes. For a buyer evaluating advanced carbon, that progression matters more than any single datasheet: it is the difference between a sample and a sourceable raw material.

What advanced carbon gets specified for

Grade selection is the real work

Sheet-like carbon, nanotubes and fullerenes are not interchangeable, and within each family the grade decides the result. Klean Graphene works from the application backwards — loading, dispersion medium, processing temperature, target conductivity — and then names the grade and the volume that fit. Detailed specifications, purity data and pricing are released once the application is on the table.
